About the Director

Mary Broz Vaughan serves as director of the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Prior to her appointment by Governor Ralph Northam in 2019, Mary led a range of policy and public relations initiatives at DPOR for nearly two decades. Previously, she served as chief of staff to the late State Senator Emily Couric of Charlottesville.

Born in Lynchburg, Mary grew up in Arlington and now resides in Henrico. A proud product of Virginia’s public education system, from elementary through graduate school, Mary received her B.A. from the University of Virginia, her M.P.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is an alumna of the Virginia Executive Institute.
